Nice Legs, Principal Schum

Paul Schum. The Kentucky man, a Catholic school principal, is facing a prostitution charge after Louisville police found him dressed like a woman and loitering in an alley Tuesday night.

Forgive Me Father For I Have Sinned. Like The Dirty Whore I Am. Spank Me.
Meet Paul Schum. The Kentucky man, a Catholic school principal, is facing a prostitution charge after Louisville police found him dressed like a woman and loitering in an alley Tuesday night. According to a criminal citation, a copy of which you'll find here, Schum, 50, was wearing fishnet stockings, fake breasts, and "all black leather" when officers discovered him "loitering in high drug trafficking and prostitution area." The citation notes that Schum, who heads Bethlehem High School, had "no reason for why he was in alley...dressed up in women's leather other than for prostitution." Schum, now on paid leave from his school post, is due in court on November 27 to answer a misdemeanor charge of loitering for the intent of prostitution.
Cops also found Paul's car trunk filled with bondage gear. Paul was not arrested but will have to appear in court on Nov. 27 on a misdemeanor charge of loitering for the intent of prostitution.

I know that Catholics are all about some drag, but I wonder what Bill Donohue will have to say about this one here?

He looks damn good for 50, but he'd probably make a pretty homely woman.

Probably wy he was just loitering.

Dammit! I know how to spell! How could I click "Send" with that huge, honkin' typo?! Arghghghghghhhhhhh!!!!!!

I love how he is on paid leave! LOl really shouldnt be surprised with that as a lot of pedophile priest are still getting pensions from the church. Maybe they just didnt want him to be hard up for money and out there selling his ass again :P

As for the Pope when I see that picture all I can think is yes I guess the Devil does wear Prada!
4th-Nov-2007 12:15 pm (UTC) - A couple things
When I first glanced at your entry, I assumed it was another Republican senator from some state I'd never been to and chuckled quietly to myself. But a Catholic high school principal- I feel badly for the kids and their parents, because I feel like a satisfying answer for why their educator did this may never reach them or at least never satisfy them. My gut feeling is that he has some sort of neurotic problem and just got caught. But that doesn't make him a bad principal, just a bad liar.

As for Catholics and drag- having been an altar boy for many years, I can confidently say that each item that Benedict has on in that picture has some sort of symbolic value. And who wouldn't dress like that, if they could?!?! Oh man I love dressing to the nines in robes and big hats.

I agree....sorry for interjecting here, but I was an altar boy too and (despite getting questioned about it any time anyone hears I was an altar boy) I NEVER had a priest say or do anything inappropriate with me. We even went on camping and fishing trips together. And it's NOT like they wouldn't have been able to tell I was heading towards a life as a gay man, " Father, look the bishop is coming for High Mass and you're going to wear the 150 percent polyester chasuble? Hello!? Why do you think God made dupioni silk?" :)

"Hello!? Why do you think God made dupioni silk?" :)"

Love it!!!!

I read some of your journal, you've got a great sense of humor. Thanks for the laugh!

You are a much bigger fag than I thought. I like that in a man!
4th-Nov-2007 06:23 pm (UTC) - Re: A couple things
Thank you, sir! I can recall so many stories about my time as an altar boy and I just shake my head while laughing....
6th-Nov-2007 12:50 am (UTC) - Re: A couple things
Agreed. I wasn't suggesting he was a bad person, just that I have a serious distaste for all Catholics - especially those in positions of power. Stems from childhood.
4th-Nov-2007 01:24 pm (UTC) - Now you've gone and done it.
First I ate the host without having my first Holy Communion...and now you've made me laugh at the Pope. You just want to make sure that I have VIP status in Hell, huh?

Did you put jelly on the host?

If there really were a hell, it'd be nothing more than heaven's smoking section. Count me in.

To be honest, I don't see this as any of our business … it's not like the Republican politicians who've voted against gay rights. For all we know (assuming that you don't know more about this than what you've stated here), he's been a beacon of tolerance in his community.

I mean, in general adult criminal citations are a matter of public record, but I don't think we should be pulling this guy out specifically for humiliation and censure (again, unless there's something I don't know).

Oh, I don't necessarily disagree with you - but it is quite disingenuous to suggest that a Catholic of any stripe is a beacon of tolerance for the gay community, which I am a loudmouth (and anti-catholic) member of, with a decades-long history of very problematic run-ins with Catholic leaders and congregants. That is where I found this postworthy. I'm always curious how people like that intolerable Bill Donohue are going to jump on the apologist bandwagon for this sort of thing, to say nothing of the hierarchy within the Vatican.

What kicks he gets from drag and bondage I have no problem with - and as to the charge of prostitution, SFW - your body, your choice as far as I'm concerned. I totally agree with you on that point. I'm really curious to see how he's treated by Holy Mother Church now that he's been exposed as a deviant in their eyes (certainly not mine) and what ways the church will try and wish this one away.

Pam Spaulding (one of my favorite bloggers) has an excellent post that echoes a lot of my thoughts on this matter and how it relates to the church. Read it here: The Hypocrites' Exposed Closets And The 'Flinch Factor'

One of my best friends is an openly gay devout Roman Catholic. Keep in mind that there's a lot of diversity within the Church hierarchy and especially within the Roman Catholic community as a whole, much more so than within most Protestant denominations (for the simple reason that it's easy to switch from one Protestant denomination to another if you agree more with the latter; you can't so easily switch from Roman Catholicism to another brand of Catholicism, and anyway the official lines of the various Catholic denominations don't vary enough to make that worthwhile, so Roman Catholics simply have their own opinions no matter what the Church says).

I understand - I grew up in it and all around it. My brother is the only remaining faithful Catholic in my family. I see all of the different factions as still a rather homogeneous grouping under the blanket of the Vatican - Italy's version of the Death Star, as (I believe it was) my father once said. This institution actively works to generate a lot of good within the world, and I realize that. My bitch is that all of that good doesn't get them even for all of the harm they wreak and lives they destroy along the way.
4th-Nov-2007 11:25 pm (UTC) - no, not with you on this one
i no longer feel schadenfreude over religious people getting caught with their pants down, so to speak, unless what they've done is abusive of another person, or they have actually been judgmental arses about the very thing they engage in before, and have censured other people for it.

this isn't a priest abusing altar boys. it's irrelevant that he's a school principal; he did nothing bad involving a child.

what bothers me most is this: had "no reason for why he was in alley...dressed up in women's leather other than for prostitution."

how do they KNOW? maybe he just gets off on cross dressing in leather and walking around dressed up in public (and doing so in an area for prostitution makes sense because there at least he won't stand out too much). contrary to what idiots think even women who dress like this aren't "asking for it". and yeah, maybe he was looking for sex, but without any money changing hands. "loitering" should not be enough to charge somebody with prostitution. it sucks that an adult can't engage in these kinks without the serious danger of getting publicly humiliated. no wonder there are so many hypocrites; society forces its crummy hangups on people left and right.

us lefties should defend such people, even if they're catholic. maybe even more so then, because damn, they need more help to overcome the dumbfuck messages about sex which they get fed by their church.
6th-Nov-2007 01:09 am (UTC) - Re: no, not with you on this one
Oh I do - I do PLENTY.

On this point about alleged prostitution, I concur.

I'll defend mightily those who would also defend me - but those who make a society that engenders these hypocrites by making it impossible for them to walk now and then on the proverbial wild side, they're the ones responsible for these social stigmas. Not one of them would defend me because they all enshroud themselves in a religious worldview that sees only the sin of what I am as opposed to the humanity in who I am. If they're in need of the assistance to overcome the dumbfuck messages about sex, they can bloody well renounce that bullshit and begin to think for themselves - but until then, I'm seeing it as the dog who bites hardest comes from one's own kennel.
