BACK DOOR BOY IN A FRONT DOOR WORLD
OUTSIDE OF SOCIETY - THAT'S WHERE I WANT TO BE
Just... WOW...

This is one of my all-time favorite songs, and it always makes me cry for some reason:

Duran Duran - Ordinary World

Then I remembered this version:

Luciano Pavarotti & Simon Le Bon - Ordinary World

I can't even cry, but I really really want to. You can tell near the end of the song that he was just having so much fun doing this

You need no reason other than it's gorgeous. On a technical level, the production that went into that song is just amazing.

Ordinary World, and to a lesser degree 'Come Undone' are my absolute fave DD songs. Ordinary World has moved me to tears more than once--all it takes is the mental image I get from lines like:

'Passion or coincidence once prompted you to say
Pride will tear us both apart
Well now prides gone out the window cross the rooftops, run away,
Left me in the vacuum of my heart. What is happening to me?
Crazy, some say, Where is my friend when I need you most?
Gone away'

and

'And as I try to make my way, to the ordinary world
I will learn to survive.

Every world, is my world (I will learn to survive)
Any world, is my world (I will learn to survive)'

Haunting, shimmering beauty.

I agree, that line about the absent friend was what made this song such a melancholy thing for me.

My favorite D² song is the B-side to the Union Of The Snake single, which is called Secret Oktober. Let me know if you don't have it.

Actually, I *do* have that track, along with several other DD gems, thanks to you!

*hat tip*

I love this song! Have you heard their song Secret Oktober? It was the B-side of Union of The Snake. That is my personal favorite.

The very first time I heard "Ordinary World" it not only instantly became my favorite Duran Duran song, and vaulted into the top of my "favorite songs" list, but also brought tears to my eyes.

I think that entire CD is actually Duran Duran's masterwork; a perfect combination of their songwriting craft, maturity, and performance.

Duran Duran was my first group that I became enamored with. To my recollection, it was also my first concert I went to. In Memphis, in the Pyramid. The Cranberries opened for them, and I sat on the floor, about ten rows from the stage, on the left side. As the show drew to an end, everybody surged up to the stage, and I managed to touch the lead guitarist's foot, clad in a purple velvet shoe.

Eh, it wasn't all that. But the music was great :) And Ordinary World still holds a sentimental quality to it. But I prefer Electric Barbarella. Get down with my bad self, why don't I!

I saw them in 1984 when they toured in support of Seven & The Ragged Tiger. It was one of the most amazing shows I've ever seen, and remains so to this day.

It did make me cry. I'm just in that kind of a mood today. I hadn't heard it for a while .. and I forgot how wonderful it is and the great lyrics. I had never seen this version before, so thank you.
