I made a pot of chicken and andouille sausage gumbo last night that ROCKED BALLS! Man it was good if I do say so myself. Damn well ought to be, I spent the entire afternoon making it.
Soon I'm going to get on my baking kick. I'l feeling a few loaves coming on - especially savory and sweet breads. This winter I'm baking rosemary and olive focaccia and some kick ass chocolate cherry bread. I love coming home on a cold winter's morning from work and building a fire in the fireplace, cranking up some Otis Redding and Stevie Wonder, and firing up the oven. Next month is the annual cookie party, and this year Maggie & I are baking blackberry-sage thumbprint cookies. We're gonna SHAME those chocolate-chip and oatmeal bakin' bitches into submission, and they will know the wonder that is our oven.
I've gotten the first few cd's for plush burned - the Jeff Buckley collection is complete and now I begin the process of making her MP3 cd's today. She has a penchant for 80's music, and being that I was born in 1970 I know a fair amount on the subject. I'm having great fun making these for her. She deserves it, being such a sweetie and all.
I also have a deep love of holiday music. I grew up listening to the Glen Campbell Christmas album - on vinyl no less. We had one of those huge cabinet stereos that had the dancing disco lights on the side panels and a roll out turntable. I wonder what ever happened to that thing! I remember my mama blaring "Superstar" by The Carpenters and picking me up and dancing around the room singing "Don't you remember you told me you loved me babyyyyyy... Said you'd be comin' back this way again babyyyyyy..." and I learned my first singing song.
