Hannity suggested use of Quran in representative's swearing-in same as using "Nazi bible" Mein Kampf
Summary: Echoing columnist Dennis Prager, Sean Hannity claimed that incoming Rep. Keith Ellison's reported intention to use a copy of the Quran apparently during the ceremonial photo op on the day he is sworn in "will embolden Islamic extremists and make new ones" and suggested that using the Quran for a swearing-in is comparable to using "Hitler's Mein Kampf, which is the Nazi bible."

Yes, because America's OFFICIAL RELIGION is Christianity. It's right there in the Bible.

How come "King James Version" purists don't get pissed off when a copy of "The New International Version" is used for a swearing-in instead?

And why the holy hell do we use a religious tome anyway? Shouldn't people required to swear on the Constitution, or maybe a stack of tax bills, instead? You're not pledging your service to God, you're pledging it to your citizens.

The bible was used because it was like a safe guard (if only for the image of it); a christian who swears to his creator will keep his oath to his office because its bound to his faith.

Which is more reason why Ellison should be able to use the Quaran and not be required to use the Bible. What is the purpose of a man swearing his oath to a deity he doesn't even believe in?

I'm just thinking it'd be nice to have something all Americans can agree is important so that assholes like Hannity would have one less thing to bleat about. A copy of the Constitution would solve that problem - it's nondenominational and it's our unique foundation of the country. And you'd damn well better believe it, or you don't need to be in office.

Right on, but it's supposed to denote that these people revere something higher than themselves - mmm ethics, perhaps? Can I get an amen? -and all that. It's a throwback to a more spiritual time and it's true, i would rather see someone swear with their hand on the original copy of the constitution, but then that sounds too much like China - the nasty side.

I swear by my country and all the freedoms and rights it upholds not to louse it up! that's got a nice ring to it!

Can we PLEASE just do away with religion in it's entirety? What useful purpose does it serve beyond giving morons a reason to hate, or a sky fairy myth to cling to because the really real world is just too big and scary?

Humanity needs to grow the fuck up and ditch this ridiculous waste of time.

Ironically, Neither the House of Representivies or Senators take an oath on ANY Religious text. They simply raise their right hand and "repeat after me"

So he uses a Quran for the Photo-Op... it says... "OMG, The Americans allow Muslims in the Government too!"

Talk about making a mountain out of a Molehill.

Yeah, I wrote about this topic on in my journal.

Maybe using the Ellison's revered book for swearing in (although no book is really necessary, really) can ENTERTAIN THE IDEA that we US citizens really are tolerant of other people's religious beliefs, just like we are supposed to be. These ignorant fuckheads don't even know what to do with the freedoms we have. It is a fucking photo op, ya batards. Maybe it'll send a good message, ja ever think of that?
