So arie has this great idea for a new grassroots campaign to send a message to the powers-that-be. It's very simple and inexpensive, but could be VERY effective - and is something anyone can do.
A postcard is a simple thing, it can be handmade by cutting up some card stock and putting a message on one side and an address with stamp on the other. For the bargain basement price of 24¢ each we can control our county's destiny again.

We can send a reminder about the message OUR country was founded on to people who have forgotten. We can participate. We can make a difference and we will be heard.

One postcard is easy to miss. 1000 or 10,000 or 100,000 -- all with the same message -- are impossible to miss.

Go check out postcardtruths, read the info page, and all will be made clear. Then join and start talking and contributing ideas. Also, link to the community to help get word out & raise awareness, the success of this idea depends on it.

My first postcard will be going to the White House. It's one I've been saving for a special occaision, too. I got it years ago at Reverend Zombie's Voodoo Shop in the French Quarter of New Orleans, and it's perfect.

I need to pass this on, but I have shitloads to do right now. If you don't see me post about it by tomorrow, could you please try to remind me to do so? Thanks, babe - I think it's vital that we all start racking our grassroots brains and get this katamari rolling long before the election catches up to us.

Jude, I'm generally an optimist in life, but after three years of dealing with government red tape and politicians I doubt that this get anyone's attention at the White House. The politicians who need to see these do not see the mail. Write to the White House and Bush will never see these postcards.

I know because I've tried.

Staffers weed out everything but what will promote their political beliefs or give them a good PR shot.

But the part inside of me that does not give up trying will send postcards anyway, but to my represenatives who are up for re-election. I am not one to give up easily so I will try anything to get things to change.

The problem as I see it is that most politicians do not live in the real world. So they don't see the problems of the commonman/woman and they are not generally moved by things that don't affect them.

And the way that this administration is going I wonder if they even listen to their own cabinet, let alone the everyday man.

I don't know what it's going to take to get heard but I will do this for you in the hope that someone will listen.

I will say if you could get enough people to inudate represenatives in their own states with thousands of postcards it might get farther because they don't want to lose their elected office, where writing to the White House Bush has nothing to lose at this point. So I don't think these postcards would move him.

Bless you for trying, so many just don't even care.

I'm not aiming at the White House, it's just important it be included. I'm aiming at making this something that will get seen and be heard by the people who's minds CAN be changed. The point of getting tons of postcards sent to the white house is, if we send enough postcards to enough people in enough places, it becomes newsworthy. And that makes a difference because if we can make it newsworthy then there's a voice and when there's a voice people will realize THEY'RE not alone either and hopefully THEY'LL start standing up and saying something, too. Basically I want our next presidentially election to be about DOING and not just all sitting home because we think the other guy will take care of it. Making noise and sending postcards isn't for the people who's minds can't be changed, it's for the people who need to know they aren't alone and that we CAN send a message together that's bigger than any of our individual voices.

It does seem those very important words have been forgotten ...all men are created equal...

it does NOT say that white, christian men are MORE equal.

I'm sending a postcard, since I live in New Hampshire I am going to see I can find one that says "Live free or die" on it.

This may be nice, but it is based on the flawed assumption that the Powers That Be give a rats ass about what their constituents think. If you rig an election, you demonstrate an utter contempt for the opinions of those who vote you into office.
