This Is Why I Hate People Like Paige...

6 year old Justin Dies At Hands Of Mom's Abusive Boyfriend As Mom Watches

I'm not one of those people who is content to look the other way like it's not my business and I need not get involved. I don't have it in me to pretend like things are okay when in reality I couldn't be more opposed. I would rather die than be complacent about such things.

I hear people bitch and complain and whine about all sorts of trivial bullshit and then I read stories like this, knowing these kinds of people exist and knowing that I claimed friendship with someone who will end up being a story like this one. I look at some of the people around me and I think "What the fuck do YOU have to complain about?" This is my way of explaining to you guys that you need not come at me with nonsense that absolutely will not matter this time next week like it's armafuckinggeddon today.

No one I know lives in dire poverty or goes to bed hungry because they have no resources for food. No one I know is lacking or truly doing without. No one I know has to worry about whether or not they will be beaten or killed each time they walk out of their own home.

While I'm on this rant, an interesting thing happened recently. My friend Sue in NJ emailed me a link to a website of a guy I monitor. His name is Fred Phelps - as in the Reverend Fred Phelps. This man is beyond anything I've ever understood before, I liken him to Adolf Hitler. He has a website called God Hates Fags that he operates through his church in Pigfucker, Kansas. These people picket gay people's funerals and such - not too long ago they picketed in New York for some of the firemen's funerals and such with signs like "Thank God For Sept 11" and "FDNY In Hell". They even brought the death of Daniel Pearl into it. I'm not kidding - see for yourself:
THIS Is Sick...
Daniel Pearl... Unbelievable!
This is child abuse! That are subjecting CHILDREN to this!

But there's More! There's another website, a counterpoint site called God Hates Fundies that has written an exposé on Fred Phelps and his family! It's harsh, but definitely worth the read.

If you don't know who your enemies are, how the HELL can you fight them?

I'm in tears... literally. That poor boy.

Yes - as was I when I read it at first. Then I scrolled down and saw the picture of the mother - what I'd give to have 5 minutes alone with her, just 5 minutes. And the boyfriend? Don't get me started...

never..NEVER post pictures of such stupidity and ignorance..it's sickening..
13th-Aug-2002 07:47 am (UTC) - Re: a simple request..
No - that's the whole point. I want people seeing this, I want people seeing this so they can understand that you cannot look the other way anymore like this doesn't affect us all. This is intolerable! There is an old saying that if you don't stand up for something then you fall for anything. My parents raised me to pick battles and fight against the things I believe are unjust. I'm not about to be one of these people that lives unaffected - I'm going to be confrontational and try and organize AGAINST this sort of thing - you know why? Because it will be MY funeral they picket when I die, and what are you going to do when you walk out of my memorial service to see this outside the door? Will you look the other way then knowing how I felt about these people? They are using people's deaths and loved ones' grief to promote hate.

I want everyone to know this man and his lackeys exist so that if he comes to their town they can go and counterprotest him. My ONLY regret is that I actually stood 30 feet from the bastard a month ago and didn't beat his ass down on CNN - and then stood over him and said "There, a Godless FAG just beat the shit out of you and the whole world saw it, motherfucker!"

I respect you, John - but I cannot honor that request. I cannot sit around and wait for someone else to condemn this. It's my choice to try and educate people to be aware of this hate and bigotry, and I will not make apologies for it. I cannot say I'm sorry if the pictures upset you, I'm not - that was the whole point.

I agree, the only way to make someone take a stand and do something is to make it personal. By showing the images, telling the story, etc that's a physical attack on the senses and morality of the average person. That's really the only way to truly get someone involved. That's why movies like "Black Hawk Down", "Titanic", and "Pearl Harbor" made so much money. The imagery was so intense that it was a slap in the face to everyone that was complacent about the whole events that took place. They move you inside, make you feel pity and sympathy for the victims and rage or anger for the antagonists.

I agree that this little boy's story should be told. This story should get time on prime time news. Maybe if certain people saw the story and realized they may be headed for the same fate, things would change. It's an outside hope, but hope nevertheless. Where there's hope, there's always the chance that good will prevail.

*gets down off soapbox*

I agree that the photos need to be posted, people need to see what is happening to these innocent children. You don't have to look at them if it bothers you. I'm not sure I could look at them myself.
Boy, if I happen to walk out of your memorial service (and I hope I don't have to, I hope to be gone before you), or anyone elses for that matter, and there is ugliness, believe me when I say that I will not practice self-control. A memorial service is a time of mourning/celebration, not a time for someone to be standing there shouting obscenities.
I believe that everyone has a right to live/do as they choose. As long as you are not forcing it upon me or my family, I don't care what you do. You start forcing your opinions on me or my family, then the animal in me surfaces.
I Love You, Jude!

fucking asshole christians
13th-Aug-2002 12:46 pm (UTC)
people like those in the pictures on jude's journal aren't christians; they're just idiots. i hate it that so many people claim to represent God but they don't even know what they're talking about. for example, one of the signs in the picture uses a Bible verse that was directed directly at Judah and is from the Old Testament, which was readdressed like 500 years later. they're claiming to represent something that they're opposing; how does one make such a gross distortion of what they "believe"? i also don't understand how so many people could go to a protest such as that, one that stands to breed so much hate, and bring their young children along...bare minimum, you think the thought of a protest turning ugly and getting violent would be reason enough to leave the toddlers elsewhere. guess the pictures serve as example 324875665 of the stupidity of the human race...

I am not trying to play devil's advocate or anything because we all know I would never do that... But... I don't think it is fair to blame all Christians for Phelps' and his followers' opinions and actions. That is like blaming all homosexuals for the sole spread of the HIV virus. It is just not so. Granted, there are a lot of christians that have... less than tolerant attitudes toward others. I think it is this very tendancy to blame all members of a "classification" for the actions of a few that causes so much pain and animosity in this world. It is just not wise to be so general in your insults. You only end up hurting people that do not deserve it, because the people you are aiming your insult at do not really care anyway. *shrug*

My 2¢

To bad they weren't in the world trade centers. I hope they're bibles catch on fire. Oh excuse me, "go up in FLAMES." I'm ashmaed to be in the human race with these dogs. Whatever happened to the christian belief.." Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself?" This is sickening. I hope the woman in the last pic knows her kid's hat has a rainbow on it. Love ya babe.... be strong.

i hadn't thought about the similarities with hitler...very true. people claiming they're doing something in the name of their god are generally like religious fanatics that aren't going along with their religion at all, and i find that saddening. the whole christian "love thy neighbor" thing hasn't been obliterated from the Bible; it still stands. it'd be nice if all these "christians" would remember some of the key doctrines of their faith. one of the major aspects of christianity is forgiveness. and because of that one 11-letter word, you can't sum up who will go to heaven and hell: ANYONE and EVERYONE can go to either place. it pisses me off hearing people say who will and won't make it into heaven because there's that whole "ye who is without sin cast the first stone" thing. ok, i'm in a mood now. hrmph
