Harvey Milk Lives In Me

Only reason I know of that is because he died on my birthday and I have done numerous gay rights projects for school, no one really knows and that is quite sad, thank you for posting about this.

It makes me want to scream with rage that people don't know -- or care.

I learned about Harvey Milk during my Queer Theory class back in college. And, just like with the Korean War, I remember when many others--shamefully--forget.

Thank you for posting this, so that--perhaps--others may also learn and remember.

Thanks for posting this - I didn't realize he & I were both of Lithuanian ancestry. I've been approached to write a new biography of Milk; I'm not sure that's something I'll ever do, but you can be sure I'll be lecturing on Milk next Friday in my lecture on the 1970s. So at the least, 600 undergrads will have to learn his name, at least for the next few weeks until the final exam, when they forget everything they learned this semester.

Those of us who know about him don't think about him nearly often enough.

I watched that film because of that post. It has since become one of my favorite films, and one that I tell people to watch. "Favorite" being an odd word here, because it end so tragically, but his life, was so very meaningful. Amongst other things that I thought when I saw it, and learned of him, I thought, "May my life be even HALF as meaningful as his, and I will know I have lived."

I watched Life and Times of Harvey Milk again recently and it really struck me that so much has changed since AND so little has changed since then...

Honey, most still think that Stonewall was a brick retaining wall in New York...
