Federal Court in California Rules Pledge of Allegiance Unconstitutional

Dear Jude's Dad,

Visit the new AFA Superstore today! A federal district court in San Francisco has ruled that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools is unconstitutional.

U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton ruled that the pledge's reference to one nation "under God" violates school children's right to be "free from a coercive requirement to affirm God." Karlton said he was bound by 2002 precedent of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Your Senators could have stopped this nonsense last year but they failed to act. In 2004, the House of Representatives passed a bill that would have prohibited liberal judges from ruling on issues involving the pledge, but failed because the bill died in U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee.

S. 1046 – The Pledge Protection Act of 2005 has been introduced in the U.S. Senate. Let's not let this happen again!

S.1046 - The Pledge Protection Act of 2005 - reads as follows: 'No court created by Act of Congress shall have any jurisdiction, and the Supreme Court shall have no appellate jurisdiction, to hear or decide any question pertaining to the interpretation of, or the validity under the Constitution of, the Pledge of Allegiance, as defined in section 4 of title 4, or its recitation.'

By exercising the authority of Congress to regulate the jurisdiction of federal courts, the Pledge Protection Act will do more than express an affirmation by Congress that the Pledge is constitutional. It will rein in a renegade judiciary that has confused the freedom for religion with freedom from religion.

Forwarding me crap from the AFA? Are you trying to make me have a seizure or something? I absolutely HATE this organization.

Sorry but you were just on that distribution list. There is a button on your computer that says "Delete". Just press it and don't have any kind of seizure or anything!!!!!!!!

Jude Bennett wrote:

The reference to a pending seizure was my attempt at sarcasm, ya big goof! I was fully prepared to forward you a list of reasons why you TOO should become a member of the Human Rights Campaign, the largest gay & lesbian political action lobby (of which I am an active member) in return. With HRC, I spend a good bit of my free time in the state Capitol lobbying senators and state reps against outright stupid and inane pending legislation like the bullshit same sex marriage amendment, which is about the most ridiculous and insulting thing to ever hit congress or the senate since women's suffrage and anyone with an intact brain stem who votes in favor of amending the constitution against same sex marriage is breathing fumes from the religious right, who are all a collective bunch of microcephalic wingnuts.

The issue isn't even the fact that I could've deleted it on sight in the first place, Dad. Out of respect and to get a different point of view, I read everything that you send me. The difference is I'm not sending you anything that I think you might raise personal objection with you because I respect you too much and am not willing to cross those boundaries, I put some forethought and sensitivity into what I send you before the fact, and if there were anything I think might be more than just questionable I don't send it to you. Assuming I were to send you anything that had material in it declaring how dangerous it was for you to be a heterosexual and how you could be delivered from your evil and destructive heterosexual ways would be the height of disrespect, and that is my point.

I enjoy your point of view, however much I may disagree with it. I love when you challenge me politically as it either serves to help me change my mind or reaffirms my existing belief(s), which I personally think is valuable. I'll even go the extra mile here and say that you may send me any proreligious-in-government material you like if in return I can send you material on isues important to me that you can consider endorsing or not. Fair is fair, right?

I love you more than you know, and always will - even if you're a fan of Dubya and nutcases like Ann Coulter...

Your ONLY bleeding heart Liberal son, like it or not,
Jude

I knew you were joking about a seizure and you are a grown man and entitled to your opinions and/or beliefs (or non-beliefs). As I said, your address is on my distribution list. I normally delete you on things I forward for informational purposes that contain stuff I know you have no interest in or that contradicts with your lifestyle. I just simply forgot to do so on that one.

With that said, I will proudly admit to being a member of that "religious right, who are all a collective bunch of microcephalic wingnuts" , however, I am open-minded enough that I know everyone will never agree on anything and no one will ever agree on everything. One day there will come a time we'll all find out who was right and who was wrong.

I agree fair is fair. You can feel free to email me anything you'd like because I have one of those "delete" buttons on this thing also. After I read stuff I either retain it, sometimes share it, or delete it. NO PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!

Whether we agree on things or not has nothing to do with our love for each other as father, son and family. We can agree to disagree and still have love and respect for each other.

Your ONLY conservative and God fearing father, agree with me or not!

Dad

...For which I love and respect you like no other, Dad!
