Katrina News, Opinion, & Info post

If I could really explain in words how I feel about this entire situation, I'm fairly certain I'd explode into a million tiny pieces of schrapnel that would maim and kill all the wrong people. So I'll get a little help (okay, a lot) from various news sources, bloggers, and assorted other sites and give my own commentary where I feel it apropriate. And with that...

Politics, politics, politics...
NEW ORLEANS RESIDENTS: GOD'S MERCY EVIDENT IN KATRINA'S WAKE - from the oh-so-lovely fellows at Repent America. More can be found here: Religious right group, heralded by top religious right leaders, says God destroyed New Orleans because of gays. First we're responsible for 9/11, now this. Time for insult to injury already? FEMA directs donations to... PAT ROBERTSON? You thought I was kidding, didn't you?

Sean Hannity calls’s Founder ultra-leftwing liberal - and speaking of, remember when he made a complete ass out of himself on Hannity and Colmes a while back first praising Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and then being a complete assclown when she called him out on his Cheney brown nosing? Video of that exercise in pathetic barking can be found here. Hell, you know it's bad when a majority of Hannity and Colmes coverage consisting of interviews with Shepard Smith and Geraldo Rivera going apeshit on Sean Hannity - video here.

I listen to Bill O'Reilly and Rush Limbaugh to be infuriated, and I read Jonah Goldberg for the same reason. Hey, you can't read Matt Drudge all the time, and I hardly have the stomach for Ann Coulter and Michelle Malkin. Anderson Cooper, the hardest working homo at CNN, interviews Sen. Landrieu and gives her a Ricky Fitz style verbal bitchslap when she needs it - [transcript/video]

What is it with the consistent evidence of failure and ball dropping hand over motherfucking fist in this administration? A Colossal Failure of Leadership: Saving people and maintaining order are the first order of government in any disaster. In New Orleans, neither has been achieved. Oh, remember all of the American criticism of France's handling of the heat wave that killed so many? Payback's a motherfucker: On Katrina, Europeans extend help, criticism - Nations, individuals step forward, but Bush administration gets slammed. WHAT WILL HE DO??? Katrina and the Political Echoes of 9/11: The president faces another leadership challenge amid national tragedy. I did say Politics, yes? Hurricane Politics: As Katrina forced President Bush to cut short his vacation, the White House is facing a perfect storm of trouble at home and abroad. But the mother of all fuckups, the clear and contrasting evidence that the incompetents are going to kill us all: The big disconnect on New Orleans. Unbefuckinglievable. Want more? Check out MyDD. And the GOP response at such a time? There are two ways to look at this. One was hit dead on by city_of_dis with this gem. First bit of proof that the GOP has NO moral decency or conscience whatsoever. Stay with me. GOP Rushes Aid to Millionaires as Gulf Coast Struggles. Crooks & Liars has Ken Mehlman's most important issue right now - notice the date. Kos has more with Bill Frist as obedient, soulless lap dog.

Foreign aid for the hurricane devestated Gulf Coast? Oh, it was offered - and turned down. More on that later. Surprised? Don't be - the fucking Red Cross has even been turned away from New Orleans, for fuck' sake. And FEMA? Please - Mike Brown is a raging fuck-up. Take care to notice the dead, rotting body in the picture there. Was FEMA ready for anything like this? Hell no! It's been bled dry by the Administration and the funds rerouted to pay for Dubya's war, but who knew the levees would breach? Who indeed. ::coughcoughcheckthedatecough::

Back to the Bush Administration. President Bush has spent 20% of his total time in office on vacation. He cut this last one (5 weeks) by two days because of the hurricane. Who else is on vacation in this administration during an event that has overshadowed 9/11 in potential loss of life, displacement, and economic disaster? Dick Cheney was on vacation two days into the disaster. Condoleezza Rice was on vacation in NYC, laughing it up on Broadway and buying $1000 shoes at Ferragamo while people were dying from dehydration and delirious from hunger here in the South. Isn't she from Mississippi? Again, Kos has more. When Bush finally got down to the scene, he lamented the loss of Trent Lott's house, but couldn't wait to sit on its grand new porch once it was rebuilt. Trent Lott, rich white guy. Nice tact there, asshole. Oh, and nice photo op. Read the commentary under the picture, my thoughts exactly. Perfect timing when people are dying, feeble excuses made too late aside.

So what do the people who were actually there thinking and feeling and saying? Plenty. Children raped in the Superdome. This man, who broke my heart. Senators call hurricane response "immense failure". Local Officials Criticize Federal Government Over Response. MSNBC photojournalist in New Orleans gives his account of what he's experienced. Mixed feelings when the National Guard finally shows up. Questions grow over rescue chaos.

Michael Moore pens an open letter to Bush, and in doing so gives the finger to the Fahrenhype 9/11 crowd. Andrew Sullivan blogs about an email he got from someone, it is a FANTASTIC read. The Times-Picayune is still putting out news online, print news will resume once it's above water. interdictor is blogging from New Orleans, giving a first hand account of what is happening, and in bush_sucks, hurricane evacuee cobaltgreen posted this exercise in brilliance.

And I'm spent. If you want to link to this post, be my guest.
