From the April 11 edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country:"The gay community has yet to apologize to straight people
for all the damage that they have done."
DONOHUE: Look, look, there's a new strain of HIV available in New York City. It's because of gay men. All right? All the talk about condoms --
RACHEL MADDOW (guest and Air America radio host): Or virology.
DONOHUE: The fact of the matter is it's due to the behavioral recklessness of gay men in New York City, that they're endangering the lives of everybody. So, you want to talk about the Catholic Church intervening in other people's lives? The gay community has yet to apologize to straight people for all the damage that they have done -- for contaminating the blood supply in New York City and around the country. And I find it amazing that, when people are acting so morally delinquent, that they're asking for more rights at the same time.
It seems to me that gay people in this country should apologize to the rest of the people, the way the pope has apologized to other people, and practice sexual reticence. Practice restraint, and you won't have the problem. It's entirely a result of behavioral recklessness that we have this disease [HIV/AIDS]. And it's a politically correct disease, isn't it?

Minnesota HIV prevention funding threatened by legislator offended by gay sex
Minnesota Representative Tom Emmer, who said he was "shocked and disgusted" by explicit language on Pride Alive's Website [Link], won approval in a House committee to eliminate all Health Department funding [Link] for the state's largest HIV prevention program. Minnesota AIDS Project receives $425,000 and spokeswoman Amy Weiss says, "The language is appropriate for the gay and bisexual audience it's aimed at, written with language that communicates directly with them." Emmer's bill would forbid state funding for "websites, pamphlets, or other communications that contain sexually explicit images or language." The bill proceeds to the House floor.
I am so beyond angry right now that the light from angry will take 6 million years to reach me. First of all, the Catholic church has NO RIGHT to say anything at all on this subject, considering the amount of raping and pillaging it's done (and continues to do) over the centuries.
I am sick and motherfucking tired of people getting bent out of shape over words, like anyone ever grew horns, a pointed tail, and hooves from saying "SHITTYSHITFUCKER!" or spontaneously combusted from the occaisional "FUCKING HELL!". This bullshit is a direct slap in my face in totally dishonoring the memory of people I love dearly and had to bury as a result of this mentality, this ignorance worn like a gleaming badge of honor, in baseless hysterics over this disease. The implication that if you're gay, you GET AIDS, while everyone else CATCHES AIDS is another point of sensitivity with me, and in 1992 prompted me to tell Nancy Schaefer to her face in the back hallway of an Atlanta news station that she was "as ignorant and ill-informed as anyone I'd ever had the misfortune to share oxygen with, in addition to being a cunting liar."
I invite you to follow these links and do your own investigation, and maybe even spread this post, link to it, repost it in it's entirety, whatever. Nothing fights ignorance like information and awareness.
