(Washington, D.C.) Conservative Christian political organizations Thursday trashed a study showing 60 percent of adoption agencies allow gays and lesbians to adopt.
The study, released yesterday by the Evan B. Donaldson Adoption Institute also showed that public agencies were more likely to allow gays to adopt than religious based agencies (story).
The most strident attack on the survey comes from the Family Research Council which called it a "fraud".
FRC President Tony Perkins said the study should be discounted because it was financed by the gay-positive group Rainbow Endowment.
"It amounts to little more than propaganda being circulated by the homosexual community itself," Perkins said in a statement.
He said that that a close examination of the findings of this study shows that only 4 out of 10 adoption agencies they contacted responded to the survey.
"With such a small sample size," Perkins' statement said, "and with the knowledge that agencies who are receptive to homosexual adoption would be the most apt to respond to the survey, it is impossible to declare that this study is based on scientific fact."
Perkins then asserts in the statement that it is too dangerous to allow children to be adopted by gay couples.
"Children raised in homosexual households are more likely to experiment with homosexuality, to be sexually promiscuous, and to have behavioral and many other developmental problems," Perkins stated in the release. "Rather than worrying about a homosexual adult's desire to be a parent we should be concerning ourselves with what is in the best interest of the child."
Interesting, they make the completely unfounded assertion that this survey was slanted in favor of predominantly "Liberal" agencies, as if any adoption agency were in the business of just throwing any old kid with anyone - as long as they weren't conservative - and that would be just fuckin' peachy. Perkins ascertains that "It amounts to little more than propaganda being circulated by the homosexual community itself", then goes on to say "Children raised in homosexual households are more likely to experiment with homosexuality, to be sexually promiscuous, and to have behavioral and many other developmental problems...". Um, 'scuse me, pal, but isn't that just conservative, Republicanesque lies? I'd like to know where that information was garnered, especially since he's so gung ho "to declare that this study is based on scientific fact." Fucking morons, I swear. And this from a group called the "Family Research Council".
"I think it is tragic when families are torn apart... by wild dogs..."
