Pensive

On Valentine's Day

I am confident that the people whom I love actually know it, because aside from today I spend a great deal of time and energy proving it on a daily basis the remaining 364 days that aren't under the focus of pledging your love for someone else. Love is making a home for someone. Love is doing every little thing you can think of to make things easier for someone else, like cleaning the house without asking them to lift a finger or providing them with alone time when they need it most, because it is about them and not you. Love is looking at someone in the face when nothing special is happening and saying "You make my life so much better just by being on my side, you have absolutely no idea how lucky you make me feel" - for no other reason than the fact taht you can. Love is imagining all of the things that would make you feel priceless and giving them to your beloved, avoiding the cliches of hearts, flowers, and candy in fancy boxes. Buy that shit and give it to them on any other random day but today or in the months of January, February, or March. Love is taking care of something difficult for someone else because you want them to be happy, and because you don't want them to have to do it.

Live is wanting better for the people in your life than they want for themselves - so if you're reading this right now, know that I love you.
