Evangelical leaders promote ‘orphan care’
Idea is to take positive steps beyond opposing abortion, same-sex adoption
Prominent evangelical Christians are urging churchgoers to strongly consider adoption or foster care, not just out of kindness or biblical calling but also to answer criticism that their movement, while condemning abortion and same-sex adoption, doesn't do enough for children without parents.

With backing from Focus on the Family and best-selling author Rick Warren, the effort to promote "orphan care" among the nation's estimated 65 million evangelicals could drastically reduce foster care rolls if successful.

Yet sensitive issues lie ahead: about evangelizing, religious attitudes on corporal punishment, gay and lesbian foster children, racially mixed families, and resolving long-standing tensions between religious groups and the government.
Wait a minute, are Pro-Life Evangelical Christians starting to put their money where their mouths are? Did I miss something? Is there a new world order?

Toni Childs

I remember when her first album "Union" came out and I was blown away by "Don't Walk Away". What a set of pipes this woman has! I wasn't ready for this song when it came out, I saw the video and bawled my eyes out. Anyone who has even a passing acquaintance with abusive relationships will identify here. That's all I'm going to say about it - let the lyrics & the video spell out the rest.

Toni Childs - I've Got To Go Now
This man I married is buried deep
And the more I try to wake him, the more he sleeps
I used to think I knew this man
The tenderness, not the back of his hand

Its been two weeks since he last had a drink
But the time bombs ticking, I can never sleep
It would be easier if he did
Why do you stay here, stay with him?

Why do you do it?
Why do you treat us bad?
When you've got two kids that love you
And a wife thats missing you bad
Ive got to go now
Ive got to say goodbye
Don't try to stop us now
And please dont you cry
Cant you see. we've all been through it
Its all been said before
With all these fears,
For how many years can I keep coming
Back for more
No more

Must be addicted to all this pain
Cause I keep coming back for the shame
Dear God give me the strength to leave
Ive got to keep going, keep going this time

Don't try to stop us now
Don't pull that stuff on me
I've got the kids all packed up
Harry's in the back with his pick up truck
Jenny's fallen asleep again
Ive got to keep driving till I reach the end

I cant come back here anymore
And I know it
And I know it
I cant come back here anymore
And I know it
And I know it

INTERNETS... heh heh heh...

Just posted TODAY on the official White House website:
Thirdly, back to your question. You thought I was kind of doing one of these -- (laughter) -- Washington, D.C. dodges. (Laughter.) I talk to a lot of families who have got a loved one in Iraq or Afghanistan, or anywhere else in this global war on terror, and they are in constant communication with their loved one. That's amazing, isn't it. You've got a kid in Iraq who is emailing mom daily, talking about the realities of what he or she sees. Information is moving -- you know, nightly news is one way, of course, but it's also moving through the blogosphere and through the Internets. It's amazing how many emails I see from people that are writing in what they think and what they hear.
Yes, he actually said "Internets".

And they posted it.
"It's amazing how many emails I see from people that are writing in what they think and what they hear."
Also amazing = unicorns.

Speaker Pelosi Urges Override of the President's Veto

"Today, the President faces consequences of his own making. This is the seventh supplemental for the war in Iraq. Certainly, somebody was planning something at the White House and could have put, over the years, the funding necessary for this war into the budget. Instead the President did not do that. I don't know why, maybe they don't want the American people to see the real cost of this war in dollars. Certainly, we know the price that we have paid more seriously, in lives, in health, in reputation, in the readiness of our military and in probably two trillion dollars now for this war."

Please contact your representatives in the House and Senate . Tell them you do not support any concessions. You're the ones who elected them, make sure they know it - make sure they understand that you are their constituents, ergo their salaries, their livelihoods, and their chances for reelection. If they want to stay where they are, make them work for it.

Well THIS just figures!

BREAKING: GOP refuses to add American troops and senior citizens to hate crime bill
Steny Hoyer and John Conyers just pulled a fast one on the GOP. The GOP has been refusing to support the hate crimes bill because it doesn't include members of the US Armed Forces and senior citizens. Conyers just rose and basically said, okay, I'll add them. The Republicans' response? Uh, no.

The Republicans have been railing for days about how this legislation doesn't cover our Armed Forces and senior citizens, and now that the Dems offer to put our Armed Forces and seniors in this legislation, the Republicans said no and affirmatively stopped the Democrats from doing it anyway.

That means the Republicans had no intent on helping our Armed Forces and seniors, on protecting them. It was just a stunt. The GOP leaders in Congress just got up and used our Armed Forces and seniors as political fodder when they had no intent on actually doing anything to help our Armed Forces and seniors.
