There has been much in the news as of late on Fred Phelps and his inbred lackeys. The most recent thing I came across in print was about a pickets they did in Casper, Wyoming at Casper College, Casper's City Hall, the office of the Casper Star-Tribune and the Matthew Shepard Foundation. Casper is the home of Matthew Shepard, and the foundation is ruun from his parent's home. At these pickets, the group sang the following words to the tune of Lee Greenwood's "God Bless The USA":

"And I'm ashamed to be an American
Where the fags can freely roam
And spread their filth throughout this land
Every pervert calls its home
And I'll proudly stand up
And hate a fag
And defend god's word today
Cause there ain't no doubt about this land
God hates the USA."

"It's a fearful thing what is going to happen to Casper, fag capital of the world," Margie Phelps shouted as she predicted the city would be destroyed by God like the biblical cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Personally, I love it. I think it is great when these cracked-out wingnuts do this sort of thing, for as horrible as the hurt they inflict is because of the bigger picture. When the whold world sees this, when they see the signs and hear the hateful rhetoric, they can no longer turn a blind eye. You cannot fight your enemies if you don't know who they are. That they would picket Matthew Shepard's anti-hate foundation, the very place he called home in the house his parents live in speaks volumes about the lengths these assholes will go to.

I really, REALLY hope that they come to Atlanta Pride again next year. I know that a lot of people are hurt by what they do. There are many tears that are shed when the Phelps cult goes on a rampage. For all of my friends who read this journal and anyone else that might come across it, please listen to me: Don't you dare shed one single tear over them. Not one. Let it turn into something else that will carry you farther than hurt will. Let it turn to anger. People get depressed because of these things and turn their anger inward and it eats them alive, please don't do that. There has been enough of it already and we don't need it anymore. Besides - what is it going to do for you in the long run to constantly get kicked down and not do something - anything - to make it better? Let it turn. In order to do that, you need to know who they really are...

Um... Visit www.yourgoingtohell.com (note the grammatical error) in the event that you are curious as to whether or not you're going to burn. Clicking refresh will play different music selections, another worthwhile reason to visit the site. Already I've heard Marilyn Manson's "The Dope Show", Led Zeppelin's "Bron Y Aur Stomp", Prodigy's "Smack My Bitch Up", Tool's "Opiate", and Allman Brothers' "Sweet Home Alabama". No wait, there's Nine Inch Nails' "Hurt". OMG!! "Wildflower" by The Cult! Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box"!! Korn's "Got The Life"!! ACK!! "White Wedding" by Billy Idol!! ::falls outta chair:: Fun fun fun!!

I'm hungry.

HRC WELCOMES SCIENTIFIC STUDY EXPLORING GENETIC BASIS OF SEXUAL
ORIENTATION AND GENDER IDENTITY

However Laws Should Protect All Americans Equally Regardless of Genetic
Basis for Being Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual or Transgender, Says HRC

WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign welcomes the results of a
scientific study adding to the body of research supporting the theory
that a person's sexual orientation and gender identity are genetically
based. However, laws should protect all Americans equally, regardless of
the genetic basis for being gay, lesbian, bisexual or transgender, says
HRC.
"This study is part of a growing body of evidence showing that
it is likely that sexual orientation and gender identity are genetically
based," said Elizabeth Birch, HRC's executive director. "Although
further research will be conducted by this team, at the end of the day,
the question of nature versus nurture shouldn't matter. Laws in America
should protect everybody equally, regardless of what causes differences
of sexual orientation or gender identity."
The University of California School of Medicine study, published
in the October edition of the journal of Molecular Brain Research,
identified 54 genes in mice that may explain why male and female brains
look and function differently. Since the 1970s, scientists have believed
that estrogen and testosterone were wholly responsible for the
development of male and female genders. Recent evidence, however,
indicates that hormones cannot explain everything about the sexual
differences between male and female brains.
"Our research implies that genes account for some of the
differences between male and female brains," said Eric Vilain, a
genetics professor at UCLA who was the principle investigator of the
study. "We believe that one's genes, hormones and environment exert a
combined influence on sexual brain development."
In explaining sexual orientation Vilain opined, "It's quite
possible that sexual identity and physical attraction is 'hard-wired' by
the brain. If we accept this concept, we must dismiss the myth that
homosexuality is a 'choice' and examine our civil legal system
accordingly."
