First-graders attend lesbian wedding
SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A group of San Francisco first-graders took a field trip to City Hall to attend the marriage of their lesbian teacher.

The students from the18 Creative Arts Charter School students took a city bus to City Hall to toss rose petals and blow bubbles on their just-married teacher Erin Carder and her wife Kerri McCoy, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Saturday.

The newspaper reported that a parent came up with the idea for the field trip, which was a surprise for the teacher.

The school's interim director Liz Jaroflow said the field trip was educational.

"It really is what we call a teachable moment," Jaroflow said.

The class junket drew criticism from proponents of Proposition 8, which would outlaw same-sex marriage in California.

"It's just utterly unreasonable that a public school field trip would be to a same-sex wedding," said Chip White, spokesman for the Yes on 8 campaign. "This is overt indoctrination of children who are too young to have an understanding of its purpose."
[emphasis mine]

An overt indoctrination of children who are too young to have an understanding of its purpose? No, that's what church is for. Besides, it was a suggestion made by the parents, and none were forced to attend without the express permission of their parents.

I hate the perpetually stupid. DIAF, stupid people.

And...baptizing them before they can speak is oh so wonderful.
I am sooo glad you posted this and your response!

No, someone who is not a parent of the children is attempting to overtly indoctrinate them into a culture of hate, Mr. White.

Yes, it's indoctrinating to expose them to lovely and commonplace happenings.

How dare we.

Stupid fucktard. I'd like to throw her ass into one of the 5 gay weddings I've been to in the last couple years so she can take my place as perpetual bridesmaid/cameraman :P
12th-Oct-2008 04:31 am (UTC) - I posted about this as well....

My problem with this is that it plays into the hands of the "Yes on Prop 8" folks and may effect voter outcome....

The Mormons, etc... are inundating the state with claims that gay marriage will be taught in the schools...They are bringing "kids" into the gay marriage argument as an instrument of fear....

Progressives, in their narrow-mindedness, used a "school-sanctioned" field trip to their Lesbian Teachers wedding at City Hall....

This is not the time to conflate the issue....Our right to marriage is at the mercy of the ballot box .....

We need to fight for fundamental rights here, and argue that "YES ON 8" is discriminatory....

Any attempt to play into their arguments (kids, schools, etc) will NOT HELP OUR CAUSE ON THIS PROPOSITION.....

At this point we need the votes to keep gay marriage rights alive.. We can work on the "hearts and minds" on people well after this "ballot threat" is extinguished...

cant we just shoot all morons.

it would be simpler and more cost effective.

I think it was charming...

...because it's never too early to teach tolerance.

Lucky kids! :)

I'm wondering if such children are too young to understand the purpose of a hetero marriage. Why take them to such events they don't understand? And OMG, even a hetero marriage involves SEX, what if children learn this?
I know it's serious, but I cant help laughing at people's stupidity.

I have an issue with it if it was during class time but otherwise? WTF-ever. It's less indoctrination than baptizing an infant or sending a kid to a stupid Sunday School class from walking on.

Gotta admit that I feel just a bit jealous of those kids. They never had anything even remotely like that when I was in school. Although - they DID take us to see La Traviata once.

heh, I thought of church too. the indoctrination begins very early: you are made of sin. You are a sinner. Dirty. Ask forgiveness. Thank Jesus He even recognizes you as a human being. now you are part of the community...

I'm eight fucking years old!
