Anonymous -VS- Church Of Scientology

This is actually starting to get interesting, what with gauntlets being thrown here and there and all.

Let's start with Anonymous.

Call To Action
Hello, Scientology. We are Anonymous.

Over the years, we have been watching you. Your campaigns of misinformation; suppression of dissent; your litigious nature, all of these things have caught our eye. With the leakage of your latest propaganda video into mainstream circulation, the extent of your malign influence over those who trust you, who call you leader, has been made clear to us. Anonymous has therefore decided that your organization should be destroyed. For the good of your followers, for the good of mankind--for the laughs--we shall expel you from the Internet and systematically dismantle the Church of Scientology in its present form. We acknowledge you as a serious opponent, and we are prepared for a long, long campaign. You will not prevail forever against the angry masses of the body politic. Your methods, hypocrisy, and the artlessness of your organization have sounded its death knell.

You cannot hide; we are everywhere.

We cannot die; we are forever. We're getting bigger every day--and solely by the force of our ideas, malicious and hostile as they often are. If you want another name for your opponent, then call us Legion, for we are many.

Yet for all that we are not as monstrous as you are; still our methods are a parallel to your own. Doubtless you will use the Anon's actions as an example of the persecution you have so long warned your followers would come; this is acceptable. In fact, it is encouraged. We are your SPs.

Gradually as we merge our pulse with that of your "Church", the suppression of your followers will become increasingly difficult to maintain. Believers will wake, and see that salvation has no price. They will know that the stress, the frustration that they feel is not something that may be blamed upon Anonymous. No--they will see that it stems from a source far closer to each. Yes, we are SPs. But the sum of suppression we could ever muster is eclipsed by that of the RTC.

Knowledge is free.

We are Anonymous.

We are Legion.

We do not forgive.

Expect us.

It has come to the attention of Anonymous that there are a number of you out there who do not clearly understand what we are or why we have undertaken our present course of action. Contrary to the assumptions of the media, Anonymous is not simply "a group of super hackers". Anonymous is a collective of individuals united by an awareness that someone must do the right thing, that someone must bring light to the darkness, that someone must open the eyes of a public that has slumbered for far too long. Among our numbers you will find individuals from all walks of life - lawyers, parents, IT professionals, members of law enforcement, college students, veterinary technicians and more. Anonymous is everyone and everywhere. We have no leaders, no single entity directing us - only the collective outrage of individuals, guiding our hand in the current efforts to bring awareness. We want you to be aware of the very real dangers of Scientology. We want you to know about the gross human rights violations committed by this cult. We want you to know about Lisa McPhearson. We want you to know about former members of Scientology's private navy, SeaOrg, who were forced to have abortions so that they could continue in service to the church. We want you to know about Scientology's use of child labor and their gulags. We want you to know about Operation Freakout and Paulette Cooper. We want you to know about Operation Snow White and Scientology's efforts to infiltrate the government of the United States of America. We want you to know about all of these things that have been swept under the rug for far too long. The information is out there. It is yours for the taking. Arm yourself with knowledge. Be very wary of the 10th of February. Anonymous invites you to join us in an act of solidarity. Anonymous invites you to take up the banner of free speech, of human rights, of family and freedom. Join us in protest outside of Scientology centers world wide. We are Anonymous. We are Legion. We do not forgive. We do not forget. We will be heard. Expect us.

I've been following this too, although I hadn't seen Scientology's response. I gotta admit, I giggled when they threw out the "child pornographers" accusation.

Seriously though, the church of scientology scares me a little.
29th-Jan-2008 11:08 pm (UTC)
Well, they ARE scary. And ominous.

The whole thing is great drama and fun, especially the protests from Anonymous cell groups like this one:

30th-Jan-2008 12:31 am (UTC)
That is hysterical!
30th-Jan-2008 01:35 pm (UTC)
I want a "honk if you hate scientology" bumper sticker!
30th-Jan-2008 04:51 am (UTC)
It sounds and looks like my answering machine got hold of my tape recorder during a thunderstorm. And WTF is up with the burning crash test dummies at the end?
29th-Jan-2008 11:43 pm (UTC)
maybe they're that other group of aliens the scientologists believe are their long-time cosmic enemies (or maybe they think that at least)... that would be a hoot, a showdown between two alien cults. where are mulder and scully when you need 'em?
30th-Jan-2008 12:01 am (UTC)
Wasn't that the plot of the entire Stargate series?
30th-Jan-2008 12:15 am (UTC)
Having never watched Stargate, I have no opinion. Therefore, I offer my blanket statement for all such occasions:
I like taters.
30th-Jan-2008 01:50 am (UTC)
STARGATE is poorly written SCIENTOLOGY propaganda.
30th-Jan-2008 02:10 am (UTC)
SCIENTOLOGY is poorly written STARGATE fan-fic.

Nah, it's just poorly written fiction, period. Literally. I suspect it's nothing more than a ploy to sell Hubbard's crap books.
30th-Jan-2008 01:13 pm (UTC)
The story I've heard most often is that Hubbard started the whole Scientology thing as a money making (and keeping) scheme, because he wasn't making any money on the crap books. There's lots of anecdotes about the origin of Scientology on the web, but I haven't found anything with anyone really going "on the record" about it.

Not surprising - who needs the grief? Anonymous has the right idea, I think - jab and run.
30th-Jan-2008 12:13 am (UTC)
I'm SO going to that Scientology/Zenu Deathmatch!
30th-Jan-2008 03:07 am (UTC)
save me a seat!
30th-Jan-2008 01:38 am (UTC)
I've been following this for a lil bit. Thanks for the rebuttal video!
30th-Jan-2008 01:51 am (UTC)
Interesting? You bet.

Anything more than a distraction/fluff piece? If this is the end goal, not so much.

Scientology has no political or cultural power to speak of. Hell, look what happened to Ms. Cruise when he flung (that particular) closet door open.

Most people say they won't even vote for a Mormon ... one of the few specks of political sanity floating around, IMHO.

If, however this is their training run, on the way to dismantling the LDS or de-fanging Catholicism or Evangelical Protestantism ... then yes, it will be interesting.
30th-Jan-2008 03:02 am (UTC) - We HATES it!
I have had to deal with Scientologists for many years because of my work in mental health. They hate psychiatry and actively pursue any avenue to try and limit mental health treatment. Thankfully their nutty rhetoric wins them no fans and further marginalizes them. But they've done some real harm over the years including some very high profile cases of seriously ill people with mental illness stopping their medications with the blessing of their families and then attacking (and in at least one case killing) someone when they became psychotic.
30th-Jan-2008 08:23 am (UTC) - getting the word out about my favorite creeeepy cult

something made me feel like hugging a teddy bear about this one.
30th-Jan-2008 01:32 pm (UTC)
Have you seen the new one? The call to action for Boston where they are going to wear masks and assemble?
30th-Jan-2008 01:35 pm (UTC)
Remember, Remember the 10th of February...
30th-Jan-2008 02:48 pm (UTC)
I have not - link?
30th-Jan-2008 05:39 pm (UTC)
jeeez, should I be going to this protest?
I think i'd go to watch - i'd be afraid to get rapt up in anything...
30th-Jan-2008 06:30 pm (UTC)
Yeah, a large mob of people protesting while wearing masks seems like a great place to get... well... killed or something?
31st-Jan-2008 02:27 pm (UTC)
it's either the masks or the lawsuits... 1 falls 10 more rise...
31st-Jan-2008 05:11 am (UTC) - Anon are my new heros

I support Anonymous in what they are doing.
I hope to find a protest happening around the tenth of Feb that I can get to.

Scientology is not a church. It is a dangerous cult. A classmate's mom got into it and re-mortgaged her house three times. Husband was pissed when he found out-- they had to move.
31st-Jan-2008 11:29 pm (UTC) - Re: Anon are my new heros
