John Gibson Mocks ‘Weirdo’ Heath Ledger’s Death: ‘He Found Out How To Quit You’
Opening his radio show with funeral music yesterday, Fox News host John Gibson callously mocked the death of actor Heath Ledger, calling him a “weirdo” with a “serious drug problem.”

Playing an audio clip of the iconic quote, “I wish I knew how to quit you” from Ledger’s gay romance movie Brokeback Mountain, Gibson disdainfully quipped, “Well, he found out how to quit you.” Laughing, Gibson then played another clip from Brokeback Mountain in which Ledger said, “We’re dead,” followed by his own, mocking “We’re dead” before playing the clip again.

Listen to it:

Throughout the course of the show, Gibson continued to bring up Ledger’s death while discussing current events, jokingly claiming that current events may have caused him to commit suicide.

On yesterday’s drop in the stock market:
GIBSON: Maybe he had a serious position in the market.

TOM SULLIVAN: And possibly today, he looked at the window and said…

GIBSON: “Oh my God.”

SULLIVAN: His name’s not Keith Bledger, right?

GIBSON: He was depressed about yesterday’s downturn in the world stock markets.
On the Democratic debate in South Carolina:
GIBSON: Apparently Heath Ledger was suicidal and his friends saw it coming. I think he watched the Clinton-Obama debate last night. I think he was an Edwards guy, cause he saw his Edwards guy was just completely irrelevant.
In reality, New York City Police spokesman Paul J. Browne told the New York Times that there was “no obvious indication of suicide."

In 2006, when Brokeback Mountain was released, Gibson repeatedly made fun of the film, calling it “a gay agenda movie". Newshounds is encouraging readers to complain to Fox News about Gibson’s comments.

ABC news reported last night there was currently no evidence of drug abuse. There was something about a rolled up bill which is apparently indicative of using to snort drugs, but they said the rolled up bills were all clean. All prescriptions were capped and had reasonable amounts (and all authorized). So, at this point, no one has any idea what happened. They are waiting on blood results and that could take a week.

How the fuck anyone can say faux news is balanced is a retard.

I know you posted about the Phelps clan planning to protest the funeral. I say bring it on and let them show the world haw awful these people are. I'm still amazed at the controversy that's been stirred up over Ledger's death.

Congratulations on soiling the name of Fox even further than it already was

Which begs a philosophical question: Can you really make shit smell worse by shitting more on top of it?

We really shouldn't expect too much. After all, they're relying on TMZ to lend credence to their reports.
24th-Jan-2008 04:30 pm (UTC)
What really gets to me is the possibility that one day Heath Ledger's daughter might hear quotes like this, not to mention how much it will hurt his friends and family now!

There is no proof that Mr. Ledger was 'drug-crazed'--if Gibson had bothered to check what facts had already been released by the time he made his revolting comments he would have known that the initial autopsy was inconclusive and that Mr. Ledger was sick, enduring a bout of double pneumonia and was suffering from sleeplessness. The facts as they are now point toward accidental overdose. Why are these people never fucking held accountable for their lies and their innuendos?

Gibson's playing the line from 'Brokeback Mountain' and his subsequent mockery of it shows what he really had a problem with---the fact that Heath Ledger had the temerity to portray a gay man in a film. When I read the transcript of what Gibson had said and done it made me feel sick to my stomach.

John Gibson is a disgusting sack of shit.

There was no reason he had to say anything about it at all--he just loves flying his "I'm a fat-assed self-righteous prig of a white guy who quivers at the idea of gay sex' flag at every opportunity. As for the quivering? It can be taken either way, I guess, since those who scream the loudest are often the ones most afraid of some long-squashed inner feeling. What foul thing he is. I can't seem to make myself get past being so angry about this.

honestly? all the mocking that i've seen on LJ alone has me so upset and pissed off that i can't complete a coherent thought.

Then you should surf over and check out my f-list - everybody's been quite sad and respectful and I haven't run into any idiots at all. The worst you can say about my f-list is one or two people have said "Um, he was a nice guy, but I don't get all the crying?" - which I can sort of understand, it's not a complaint so much as a "I just don't feel that much love myself."
24th-Jan-2008 05:28 pm (UTC)
yeah, i can understand that. i find it somewhat surprising how hard his death has hit me...i suppose i mostly feel the loss of what i feel was a great talent.

Subject: John Gibson Show Complaint

Fox News,
My name is Kevin Hope, and as a 26 year old Engineer, I found John Gibson’s remarks about Heath Ledger’s death to be horribly insensitive.
I find it disgusting that a man can mock someone else’s passing.
I am making an effort to send complaints of this nature to advertisers on your network, and plan to retool my financial decisions so that I do not use your company’s advertisers until such time as an apology is made or John Gibson is terminated.
Have a heart Fox News. A man is dead. His family is mourning a difficult passing. Statements like these don’t show political ideology. They show a base form of hatred no American should possess.
Sincerely,
Kevin Hope

As a journalist, I am disgusted people like this man are put in the same group as myself.
He gives a bad name to every person in media.

Gibson's lack of respect for one man's sudden death is appalling and disgraceful. Not only that, but to make it political only helps him dig his own proverbial grave.

I only have a few words: bigoted fuck wad bastard.

what a fucking douche nozzle....

This asswipe is almost as bad as Fart Phelps.
24th-Jan-2008 06:11 pm (UTC) - I wrote this
to Fox News:

Good Day:

John Gibson's remarks about Heath Ledger's death were without tact and
pretty obnoxious. It's a shame that a person's death has to be fodder
for an on air personality's agenda about alternative lifesytles.

Not a classy act at all and it brings shame on your network.

Sincerly yours,
....

I won't listen to it; so if you portrayed a gay man in a movie, it's a free-for-all, and your death is fodder for ridicule, which exposes how truly hateful this man really is toward homosexuals. Thinly veiled it is not. Nice. I bet he's a God-fearing, Jesus-loving Christian. And I bet he sleeps at night.
24th-Jan-2008 06:41 pm (UTC)
i'm just amazed. if he had called him a "nappy headed ho" he would have been fired. but this is acceptable.

Obviously there's still one very large group of Americans who can still be discriminated against without recourse.

Where is gay America's Martin Luther King Jr. when they/we need one?

It's funny; when I first saw John Gibson during the 'Nineties I thought he was a reasonable guy. I had no idea of his politics. Then, a few years later, I started hearing that he was associated with Republican/conservative causes, and that he had moved from MSNBC to FOX. I was surprised, based on having thought him a reasonable guy. Obviously my opinion quickly changed. Since then everything I've heard about him has made my impression worse.

This is of course the worst thing yet. Now, I have nothing against criticising the dead, and have actually taken major heat for doing so myself. Also, I suppose it's fair to be a sincere believer in causes I oppose--i.e., I suppose it's legitimate for him to be a right-wing wacko. But in this case, we're discussing an actor who, to my knowledge, wasn't even a political opponent.

Is it that Ledger starred in Brokeback that made him the object of right-wing ire? I mean, God forbid a heterosexual should sympathise with, support, or actively work toward promoting understanding between persons of different genetic make-ups? Please. I saw the picture of you and the baby the other day and thought, "How beautiful." Then I remembered there are wackos out there who think that homosexuals are anti-family.

John Gibson and his ilk are suffering psychosexual mental disorders.
