Hey, Jude, I think your first link is busted. It downloaded a very small file that claimed to be vol 2.

JOhn.

OH BOY! I need to do this, too.
Jim loves xmas music, so I make compilation cds for him. I have LOTS of stuff, including some very bizarre titles (cast of Bonanza christmas album)and a few very cool ones. Erlend Oye from Kings of Convenience does an amazing cover of "Last Christmas" by Wham! I also have the old Projekt records xmas album. Most of it is a little too over the top "I'm too melancholy and morbid for words", but the Love Spirals Downwards version of "welcome christmas" from The Grinch That Stole Christmas is great. Also, Black Tape for a Blue Girl do "Chanukkah, Oh Chanukkah".

Future post coming.

Lastly, I love the hell out of Vince Guaraldi, and not just his Peanuts pieces. When the indie record store where I once worked decided that they wanted to be "more mainstream" and mandated that we play xmas music durin the consumer frenzy season, I would ONLY play Vince Guaraldi over and over and over. The mandate was later modified to, play xmas music every 3rd or 4th selection.

That one is my favorite version of the song, that's why I put it on here.

Thanks for the new Christmas songs... and extra special thanks for the improved lyrics. I'll be singing those from now on, I think. ;)
25th-Nov-2006 03:03 am (UTC) - Check out the Mediaeval Baebes' "Mistletoe & Ivy"
They recorded ethereal versions of "In Dulce Jubilo" and "The Holly and the Ivy," two of my favorite carols.

But for sheer gorgeousness, I also recommend the Andrew Tavener Consorts' Christmas album. You can find it on Amazon.
