There is a reason why you are the only person whose musical recommendations I always trust implicity.

I really need to get down to Columbus. soon.

Elaborate, Nettie! And yes, yes you do. The guest bed in the loft is just waiting on you.

It has to do with a late night conversation on AIM and an "Essential" CD that found its way to Warrior, Alabama shortly thereafter.

It's been two long months since I took a good look in the mirror...
14th-Oct-2006 12:54 am (UTC)
and its time I reintroduce myself to the world...

Methinks you & HotWorkerBear need to take a drive down south one of these Fridays, jut for fun. Did I mention the loft is on the river and we have riverwalk access, PLUS it's just 2 miles from where we took pictures?

I'm still working on a second date with hotworkbear. I don't count lunch as a date. He's a gaming addict and has a lot of commitments related to said addiction. It'll happen, but my trip south may well be on my own.

Well, if it comes down to it, let him know that D is a fellow gaming geek as well and plays Eve Online daily. Was Final Fantasy and WoW, but now he's back on Eve - anyway, the loft is wireless. If that counts for anything.

Not that you coming down on your own is any sort of problem, just sayin' is all.

He's a WoW guy. You guys just want to see HWB.

If you are a fan of cover-ers, and it seems you are... you might consider trying out Storm Large. You may or may not have seen her on Rockstar Supernova. Her efforts previously were nothing short of amazing. You can find lots of her stuff on the internet, and if you're interested I can link you to a bootlegs page when I get home (I'm at work right now). The band she fronts is called "Storm and The Balls"
She's awesome, but she's not for everyone.
14th-Oct-2006 01:19 pm (UTC)
I'd be interested in giving her a listen, sure!
14th-Oct-2006 06:20 pm (UTC)
You can find a great deal of stuff on her here.

Let me know what you think... not that you'd be able to sway me, because I think she's phenomenal, but I'm interested to see if you do as well.

Ciao...

Physical is one of my fave NIN songs.

Of course, I like them all.

I happen to go Ga-ga over the Perfect Drug song myself. And F**K You Like an Animal.
14th-Oct-2006 01:23 pm (UTC)
PD is a great song, but I like the older stuff much better. BTW, that song you refer to is called "Closer". I have a mix of that where it was paired with the music from Super Mario Brothers 3 and it's incredible.
14th-Oct-2006 04:03 pm (UTC)
F**k You Like an Animal is actually called Closer. It's a pet peeve of a lot of NIN fans, but it's cool with me because I don't know the names of any of his instrumentals. :-P

I totally LOVE the MV for Perfect Drug.

I was a huge Adam & The Ants fan in the 80's, and the first time I heard NIN do this was when they opened for Peter Murphy in Atlanta at a place that barely held 1,000 people. It was the same month that Pretty Hate Machine came out and everyone was like "Who the fuck is THIS?", but it was a great show. They did it again when I saw them on the very first Lollapalooza tour, which was amazing - Butthole Surfers, Rollins Band, Ice-T & Body Count, Living Colour, NIN, Siouxsie & The Banshees, & Jane's Addiction.

YOU SAW LOLLAPALOOZA!!!!! That has to be one of the single most exciting things I have EVER heard.

I caught NIN in Tucson May 2005 and Trent Reznor chucked one of his water bottles into the audience (because it was fucking hot) and IT BOUNCED OFF MY HEAD AND SPLASHED ME and that has pretty much been the highlight of my life.

Oh! I couldn't find that Mandy Moore song! Thank you Thank you! And I love the Travis Tritt version of the Eagles song. The whole Common Threads album that it was on like ten or so years ago rocks! I need to ask my brother if he still has it! Again, I can't find that anywhere! Thanks again!

That list has a bunch of my favourites, I'm excited to hear the rest!

I was really glad to see that you included a couple of Tori's covers... I love her renditions of cover songs. Don't know if you've heard her Strange Little Girls album yet or not; but it's entirely covers of songs originally written and performed by male artists... she does a pretty good job of giving a feminine voice to the music. But, of course, I'm a little biased when it comes to Tori as she could probably hand me shit on a plate and I'd call it a masterpiece.

Anyway, I really love your music posts... well, all your posts; but the music ones especially. :-) Just sayin, is all.

You are my most favorite LJ person. :-) Thanks for posting these!

Once again, you not only rock, but you gave me some stuff that I needed to listen to at a very appropriate time. Thanks a TON.

In the p2p heyday of Napster et al one of the things I liked to do was search using the term 'cover'. I found some true gems I did not know existed.
