Yes it was - it's up now. What do you want to know about Cory and "The Big Coup"? Listen to the songs Bad Girl's Lament" and "What You Signed Up For" and follow along with the lyrics - it's all there.

So....basically he wanted to be in charge and she said no we're partners and they fought? I'm so bad at reading betweeen the lines! "Bodies," however, is a song where extreme intelligence is not needed. It's all there in black and white. Man, what I wouldnt give to be standing in a tenny room with 100 people again and see her smile at him and them flip those guitars over and start banging away. *That* my dear friend, was magic.

But what about now? Does she know that he had cancer (the only thing I've read about him in the last 8 years was that one article)? Are they friends? Is he pissed that she redid a lot of the songs without him even though he co-wrote them with her to begin with? You need to write her biography!

Not exactly. I think that near the end of SMD, everyone in the band was having issues with Cory's methods and his way of dealing with everyone else. Jenn isn't very confrontational, so she did a lot of behind-the-scenes nurturing and at times even apologizing for him. By the time it came to a head, he was having his initial surgery which happened rather abruptly - no big deal, it was necessary. It put Jenn in the position of having to perform shows they already had lined up without him, and the pressure to do that was immense on her. Once they played the first show without Cory (which happened here, matter of fact) she proved to herself that she could do it without him. Not only that, but it felt freer and more like what it was supposed to be, and the entire band agreed.

Not too long after, she decided that she's had enough. It was more her deciding that she needed to try to do this on her own, and even if it meant failure it would be failure on her own terms and no one else's. From Flagpole, April 2000:
“I felt that the band was going through a bumpy time, and I announced my plans to leave the band in early September, 1999,” explains Nettles, who before the interview commenced made it absolutely clear that she was in no mood to rehash the past, but rather, was eager to dive into the future. “Cory and I had what one could call ‘major artistic differences’, and the dynamic of the band itself was unbalanced and not very inclusive.”
I agree, seeing them do "Bodies" was incredible. I also miss them doing "Son Of A Preacher Man", "Angel From Montgomery", "Steamroller", "Think" and lots more. *sigh*

Yes, she knows. They all know, matter of fact Scott (Nicholson) ran into Cory not too long after he was diagnosed in a Kroger in Athens and said it was very wierd and tense. I'm not sure what his raction to her continuing to perform the songs is or was, but Jenn wrote all of the songs she still performs. No, they are not friends and I seriously doubt they ever will be.

Wow. It's so nice to know people who know people. The first time I heard of her I was "dragged" to the show where the two of them were playing (duo show). It was so crowded that half our friends got in and the rest of us stood outside to listen. They let us in for the last song which was "Bodies." I only heard that song "well" but it was enough to buy Sacred and Profane and become obsessed!

Do you perchance have recordings of the other songs you mentioned? I know "Steamroller" is on Sacred and Profane but I've never heard the others.

Interesting thing: On the Sugarland promo poster where Jen is on the horse, the three people not looking into the camera are still in the band whereas Simone & the other dude are looking right at the camera and *poof*.
