BACK DOOR BOY IN A FRONT DOOR WORLD
OUTSIDE OF SOCIETY - THAT'S WHERE I WANT TO BE
For my friend, who knows who they are...

And also because I just love this song...***

Joan Armatrading - The Weakness In Me

I'm not the sort of person who falls in and quickly out of love
But to you, I gave my affection, right from the start.
I have a lover who loves me - how could I break such a heart?
Yet still you get my attention.

Why do you come here, when you know I've got troubles enough?
Why do you call me, when you know I can't answer the phone?
And make me lie when I don't want to,
And make someone else some kind of an unknowing fool.
And make me stay when I should not.
Are you so strong or is all the weakness in me.
Why do you come here, and pretend to be just passing by?
But I need to see you - I need to hold you - tightly.

Feeling guilty,
And I'm worried, waking from tormented sleep
'Cause this old love has me bound,
But this new love cuts so deep.
If I choose now, I'll lose out;
One of you has to fall.
I need you, and you...

Why do you come here, when you know I've got troubles enough?
Why do you call me, when you know I can't answer the phone?
And make me lie when I don't want to,
And make someone else some kind of an unknowing fool.
Make me stay when I should not.
Are you so strong or is all the weakness in me.
Why do you come here, and pretend to be just passing by?
But I need to see you - I need to hold you - tightly.

***[DISCLAIMER]
This is actually just a great song, and I am in fact pointing it out for a friend of mine. I am in no way whatsoever personally identifying with this song, I've just happened to love it for many years and I am a big admirer of Joan Armatrading. This and Drop The Pilot are my favorite songs by her, but I'm not personally in any love triangle.

"Joan Armatrading" - I don't think I've ever head this name before... what's the music like? (What style, etc)

Kind of folky, Joni Mitchell - Indigo Girls - Mary Chapin Carpenter from the early 80's. Tracy Chapman BEFORE Tracy Chapman, basically.

Didn't we just decide the other night that there was *no* Tracy Chapman before OR after Tracy Chapman???

Well, considering this was several years before Tracy Chapman and was never mainstream, she was first. The TC comparison was to give perspective. You'll get it once you hear the song.

Have I said ::tears:: lately?

Yes, it was for you. Such a beautiful song, you'll hear it this weekend if I don't see you sooner.

I've actually heard this song before...I'd just never internalized the words.

Funny how that works.

I look forward to hearing the whole thing again and listening with *these* ears.

Hi. This is totally OT but..."Time Time Time" may be a new favorite. All in all excellent CD except for "Small Town Jericho." I dont like the way it all runs together. I liked the pauses between thoughts before. Now it seems rushed. I'm not a huge fan of the "yeah yeah yeahs" over the end of "Speed of Life" either...kinda hokey. But anyway...I cant wait till the 26th!
